Education Update - August 2021

What has your LOC been working on for the past 4 weeks?

We have been focused on increasing mental health resources and services particularly as students return to school. One way to do this is to use some of the $280 million in additional funding the federal and state government are giving the Sac City Unified School District to increase services for youth who need it most and have been facing mental health challenges during this time. We also developed an alternative safety plan to ensure the district doesn’t fall back on police officers/SROs as a base for its safety plan and instead prioritizes me restorative practices.

Research Meetings

We had a research meeting with County Superintendent Dave Gordon to follow up on SCOE’s Schools as Centers of Wellness initiative which places mental health workers throughout schools in the county. We confirmed that the program will expand from 10 schools to at least 20 this fall.
